Abstract/Designs

Indian Art

Last summer I was commissioned to do a painting with the brief of Indian design (intricate, ornate etc), summer feel (blue, yellow, touches of pink), batik fabric and the design and feel of Saaris.

As it was unlike anything I've done before the process was a steep learning curve, which began with researching the patterns and design, and the sketch you see here was a third attempt at combining them into one unique piece.

Excitingly, I got to use masking fluid for the first time to create a batik feel, and I am so impressed with the effectiveness of masking fluid, even with acrylic paint! I used the masking fluid which comes with a pen for a neater line.

I finished the painting with extra painted detail, to contrast with the marks the masking fluid had left, and to make it more intricate.

The painting was delayed due to health reasons, but the result was well received!

Forest of Dreams

So this started last summer as an attempt to give an impression of a sunset using really runny drippy paints. It never really happened, but the other night I decided to tackle it again. The idea was the red was at the bottom, by the land, fading into blue in the sky... I decided to paint it upside down, and it ended up looking like this, and in fact, much better this way round. I've debated adding more to it, changing it, but I've decided I really like it as it is, it reminds me of a forest... A mystical, magical, ethereal place, with trees emerging out the mist.

Texture added with salt and bubblewrap, painted in acrylics.

I've never painted this loosely before, it was fun!
