My brother marries his fiance next month, and for their honeymoon they hope to hire a VW campervan and go exploring! They've asked for donations towards this as wedding presents, and they needed something at their wedding to collect such things. They asked me to create them a campervan card box, and this is the result!

It is made from a cardboard box I had lying around from moving house, and just bits and bobs I had lying around - such as acetate, beads, fabric, fimo, ribbon, kirby grips and foam! The number plate is based on the wedding (WED), the date (10/9) and the first initial of their surnames (B). All the painting has been done with acrylic paint, and everything attached with a combination of tape, double sided tape, PVA and superglue!

It's been a challenge but wonderfully fun to create, and I hope it's a success!

Well, near the end of last year, a friend approached me. She uses a wheelchair, and wanted to liven it up a bit. In order to protect the spokes on the wheels/the user, spokeguards can be placed over them. These are made of tough plastic, but generally come in rather dull colours. So, using her brief, I designed these, and subsequently painted them for her.

This was a great project to do, but provided a very steep learning curve! I may have painted a giant fibreglass penguin, but that came fully primed. This? Well, I've never had to paint plastic before! I found some all purpose primer, and after a quick abrasion with a basic cleaning product as well, the surface was prepared for acrylic paint.

I have had a fair amount of experience with acrylic paint, considering, but I have never seen it work like this. It seemed to turn to almost rubber as I applied it and it dried. I guess just because of the primer under it. Really interesting, but not necessarily bad!

It took a fair few hours, with multiple layers of paint needed, followed by 3 coats of varnish. I'm rather pleased with the finished result :)
